Colombia Check-MIG Requirements – Documents and Information Needed 2026

Before filling out the Colombia Check-MIG form, gather everything you need. The form is available free at apps.migracioncolombia.gov.co/check-mig and should be completed within 24 hours before arrival. Below you will find every requirement explained in detail.

For context on the full process, see our Colombia Check-MIG 2026 guide.

1. Valid Passport

Your passport is the most important document. Check-MIG requires a valid passport with at least 6 months of validity from your Colombia arrival date. Requirements:

  • Valid for at least 6 months beyond your planned departure from Colombia
  • In good physical condition – no significant damage or water damage
  • Legible – all printed information must be readable
  • Has available pages for immigration stamps

You will enter your passport number exactly as printed, along with your full name, nationality, date of birth, and expiry date. Even minor discrepancies between Check-MIG data and your passport can cause issues at immigration.

2. Confirmed Flight Information

You need your confirmed flight booking:

  • Airline name – e.g., Avianca, LATAM, American, Copa Airlines
  • Flight number – specific flight code from your booking (e.g., AV204, LA543)
  • Departure city and country
  • Arrival date in Colombia
  • Port of entry / arrival airport – El Dorado (BOG), José María Córdova (MDE), Rafael Núñez (CTG), or another Colombian airport

Check-MIG is tied to your specific flight. If you change flights after submitting, you may need to resubmit.

3. Accommodation Address in Colombia

Colombian immigration requires a declaration of where you will stay:

  • Name of hotel, hostel, or Airbnb (or host’s full name)
  • Full street address in Colombia
  • City of stay

For multi-city trips, enter your first accommodation. If staying with friends or family, provide their home address. Make sure accommodation is booked before completing Check-MIG.

4. Personal Details from Your Passport

  • Full name exactly as printed (including middle names if present)
  • Date of birth
  • Gender
  • Nationality
  • Country of birth
  • Type of travel document (passport, refugee document, etc.)
  • Document number
  • Document expiry date
  • Country of issue

5. Purpose and Duration of Visit

Declare your reason for visiting. Common options:

  • Tourism / holiday
  • Business
  • Study
  • Family visit
  • Work (must also have appropriate visa)
  • Transit

Also declare your intended length of stay in days. Visa-exempt tourists can typically stay up to 90 days.

6. Emergency Contact Information

  • Full name of contact person
  • Phone number with international country code
  • Relationship to you (family member, friend, colleague)

7. Valid Email Address

A working email address is essential. Your Check-MIG QR code confirmation is sent here. Double-check before submitting. If using a corporate email, ensure it can receive external mail. Gmail or similar personal addresses work reliably.

8. Health Declaration

Self-declaration health questions – no documentation required. Answer honestly about current health status and any symptoms.

What About Proof of Onward Travel and Funds?

The Check-MIG form itself does not ask for proof of onward travel or financial means. However, Colombian immigration officers at the airport may request:

  • Return or onward flight ticket
  • Proof of sufficient funds (bank statement, credit card)
  • Travel insurance documentation

These are separate from Check-MIG but are part of Colombia’s broader entry requirements for 2026.

Requirements for Minors

Each traveler including minors needs their own Check-MIG. A parent or guardian can complete it on behalf of a child using the child’s passport details. Minors traveling without both parents may need additional notarized consent documentation for Colombian immigration.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I complete Check-MIG without a confirmed flight booking?

No. You need confirmed flight details – airline, flight number, and arrival date – to complete Check-MIG. Book your flight before starting the form.

Does my passport need to be valid for 6 months?

Yes. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry into Colombia. Passports with less validity may result in denial of entry.

What if I don’t have a confirmed hotel booking?

Book your accommodation before completing Check-MIG. If very flexible, enter a hotel address in your first Colombian destination city as a placeholder.

Do I need separate Check-MIG forms for each person in my group?

Yes. Each traveler needs their own individual Check-MIG registration. One person can complete multiple forms for a family, but each must use that individual’s details.

Is travel insurance required for Check-MIG?

Travel insurance is not required for the Check-MIG form itself, but it is strongly recommended for all travelers to Colombia.
